Today we watch : Allied

Allied (Alliés) movie poster

"Allied" a good, beautiful, old-style movie that recalls the old Hollywood films from the '50. The kind of movie they don't produce very often anymore. Everything is in there: secret intelligence, love story, a tricking plot, glamour & elegance...

& in addition to all that, Brad Pitt, class '63, is cooler than when he was 30! How is this even possible??

Even though it's the story of 2 spies during world war 2, don't expect a big, action movie: there are not many spectacular action scenes, the film is quite long indeed, especially the first part. But the plot is interesting & unexpected. Plus, photography & images are very beautiful.

& I won't say anything... but the end... 💔

I really had a good time watching "Allied", so if you don't know what to do this upcoming weekend, may I suggest a theater night? ;)

Hubby & I watched it last weekend. It was a while since last time we went to the cinema, I cannot even remember the last movie we saw... I missed it. I like it so much to seat in the velvet chair, waiting in the warm, dark room to be taken faraway by the story...

Anyway, we were supposed to have a proper date night: movie & dinner. Except that hubby ate too much popcorn while watching the movie, that by the end of it, he wasn't hungry anymore... So we just went back home & shared a frozen pizza & watched the end of "Dance avec les stars" (Dancing with stars) ahah. Well, as long as we're together, everything's perfect anyway 😻

Today we watch : Connasse princesse des coeurs

Saturday night I was a bit tired, not really willing to party nor to dress up to go dinner outside. I just wanted a cosy, little night. Meaning by that I really wanted to go to the cinema to watch a simple, good-mood movie. Nora and I went to watch "Connasse, princesse de coeurs". For those of you who don't know, Connasse is a French, comic candid camera starring the most unbearable mean girl (the so called "Connasse"). And they now turned it into a feature film. So I went to the cinema with really low expectations... and was incredibly surprised in a positive way. The movie is super funny, we've been laughing out loud all along!! We really had good time and kept smiling for the rest of the evening.
The plot is inconsistent, but it doesn't matter. Camille Cottin (the connasse) is good actress and super bold (she must have had SO much fun shooting the movie!!!) plus she's got a wardrobe that would make Carrie Bradshaw jealous! The jokes work really well and they go on without any breaks. The whole movie has been filmed on hidden camera and the result is good (I was afraid that filming on hidden camera meant poor quality images, but I was wrong).
I actually never watched Connasse on the telly before, but I think the cinema version is a good achievement.
It's surely not great cinema, but if you wanna have a nice evening in good company and have fun, I highly recommend you Connasse the movie!
Here under a screenshot from one of the funniest moment of the film... How I would have loved to be there while they were shooting this!!

Today we watch : The Grand Budapest Hotel

Did you love fairy-tales when you were a kid? Then you're gonna love "The Grand Budapest Hotel". It's a fairy-tale, a true one with the hero, the mean guy, the love story, the adventure, the subterfuges,... Only for grown-ups! :)
There is a real universe, but one must takes the time to enter into this world. The movie is different from what we're used to watch nowadays: the rhythm is slower, acting is unusual, characters unique.
There are beautiful pictures and in those big spaces one has sometimes the impression of seeing ballet dancers moving as in the sumptuous decor of a theater, instead of actors, their movements being so peculiar, studied.
One has to let himself being taken by all that, light headed ... And it's a real pleasure!
We also discover plenty of well-known actors in roles in which we do not usually see them.
The little girl I am, really enjoyed the show and left the theatre with a beautiful smile! :)
Thank you, Mr Wes Anderson, for this sweet film!

Alors, vous allez aimer "The Grand Budapest Hôtel".

Today we watch : "Le voci di dentro"

Le voci di dentro with actor Toni Servillo, in Paris

Yesterday night, I went to the theatre to see the play "Le voci di dentro" by Italian playwright Eduardo de Filippo with Toni Servillo. It's a beautiful, interesting, well played show.
It's a comedy, one laughs, but it's very different from the comedies of today, it's deeper and darker too. At the same time, this play was written just after World War II, so this must have had an influence on the text.
But indeed, I was thinking yesterday how theatre changed over the years… And how the plays I can watch today are certainly funny, but often so simple...
I never had the opportunity to see Toni Servillo in theater before, it's a pleasure, and his brother is just as good as him!!
And one could really feel the passion for acting of all the actors on stage. It was beautiful!
Plus, I think it's beautiful that an internationally recognized and awarded artist like him, continues to play in theaters, to go on tour and to share his art and the Italian culture around.
He seems also very accessible: after the show he was willingly talking with his audience.
It is a text of a Neapolitan author and it's played in Neapolitan. Given my background, to hear this dialect brought back many memories to me, although I do not understand everything! ;)
Plus, I think the dialect gives more charm and atmosphere to play.
I 'm not sure, however, that those who do not speak Italian can totally appreciate all the colors of acting. Play is subtitled, but I'm afraid that to be obliged to read the subtitles all the time doesn't allow to completely get into the story.
But even if you 're not Italian, I suggest you to go to see this show, that is going to be played until Sunday at Maison de Culture 93 in Bobigny (a great discovery this theatre by the way). It's a beautiful painting of Italian life and culture and this is something we don't have the chance to see every day!

Today we watch : Les garçons et Guillaume, à table!

Today we watch : Jeune & jolie

I really wanted to see "Jeune & jolie," the new film by François Ozon. I had heard a lot about it, I usually like his movies, and I wanted to make my own idea.
And then I wanted to see Marine Vacth: I'm always curious to see what actresses of my generation do, how they approach a role, how they build a character, I think also about what I would have done if I was offered the same role.
Well, I've not been disappointed! The subject of the film is certainly hard, a teenager who decides to prostitute herself apparently for no reason and without being in need, and there are many and crude sex scenes, but they're nicely, I'd say almost aesthetically, filmed. With beautiful lights. And that's why the movie isn't vulgar, in my opinion. Marine Vacth is also very elegant and graceful, which also helps to keep away any vulgarity. And she totally brings us into her world. Without giving us any explanation for her behavior. Does she know why she behaves this way? Nothing is less sure. And here is all the interest of this film: no reason, no value judgment, just a fragment of life. And at the end everything is still possible, is she going to start again, to stop, to be saved? Each viewer can have his idea. Why did she get into prostitution? Everyone can understand the film in his own way, or not. You are free.
However, at the end of the film, I heard some spectators saying they hated the movie; I guess it is a film one either loves or hates, but one can't be indifferent. And this is also better, in my opinion.
In the second part of the film, some funny replies, especially from the stepfather, relax the atmosphere a bit. However, I think this character is not detailed enough.
Finally Charlotte Rampling, she only arrives at the end of the movie, but as soon as she appears on the screen she eclipses everyone else! And what a class!
Have you seen the movie? What did you think?
